Meet Anne - Founder & Clinic Lead

Miss Anne Henderson is a Consultant Gynaecologist and one of a select group of British Menopause Advanced Specialists in the UK. The British Menopause Society accredits highly-qualified healthcare professionals who demonstrate extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of Menopause and HRT.

With over 35 years of clinical experience, Anne is renowned as the ‘Gynae Expert’, providing high-quality healthcare to her patients and trusted health information in the mainstream media, on social media and online via her website Anne uses a holistic approach to women’s health and menopause care; she was commissioned by Dorling Kindersley to produce a comprehensive holistic guide to the menopause and her book, “Natural Menopause”, was published in March 2021 to excellent reviews

Anne has a passion for training and teaches fellow Gynaecologists, GPs and Practice Nurses throughout the South East. Now she has developed The Amara Clinic to provide bespoke health and menopause care in a beautiful, safe, private space in the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells. She has hand-picked a highly skilled team of medical experts and other healthcare professionals, she supports and works with her team to fulfil her vision of providing exceptional healthcare to women throughout their reproductive lives, during perimenopause and menopause and beyond.

In her role as Owner and Director of The Amara Clinic, patient care is personally overseen by Anne at all times.

Meet Gail

Dr Gail Ball graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School in 1994 and undertook her GP training throughout the South East. Gail has over 18 years’ experience in the NHS and during her career, she has developed a special interest and expertise in all areas of Women’s Health including management of heavy or painful periods and menstrual irregularities, contraception including coil fitting, menopause management, genital prolapse and vulval and vaginal symptoms.

She shares the vision of The Amara Clinic and understands the importance of helping women maintain their health and wellbeing during the menopause and beyond.

Meet Jacqueline

Dr Jacqueline Brickley graduated from St Andrews University with a BSc. in Medical Science and qualified as a doctor in 1999 from Manchester University. She trained as a GP in London in 2004 gaining her MRCGP. Jacqueline graduated with a diploma in Sport and Exercise medicine from UCL in 2007 and worked with Paralympics GB and at the World University Games in 2009 alongside her GP role.

She developed an interest in PMS and menopause over recent years and is passionate about supporting women through this period. She is a member of the British Menopause Society and is working towards completing her Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care.

Meet Bushra

Bushra Effendi graduated from The University of Bradford, pharmacy school in 2005. With experience in Primary care, Secondary care and private pharmacy practice, Bushra has developed a strong interest in women's health, particularly a passion for empowering women to take charge of their well-being through the menopause transition and beyond. She actively contributes to advancing women's health by serving on the clinical advisory panel for The Menopause Charity.

In addition to her commitment to patient care, Bushra is dedicated to education and professional development and has actively supported with designing training modules for her pharmacist peers. She is an active member of the British Menopause Society and is currently pursuing her advanced certificate in menopause care.

Aligned with the values of the Amara clinic, Bushra believes in providing personalised care to meet the unique needs of each patient.

Meet Leela

Dr Leela Thangavelu graduated from Bangalore University in 2000. She completed her GP vocational (GPVTS) training in the London Deanery in 2010. During her GP training she completed the Diploma of the Faculty of Reproductive and Sexual Health (DFRSH) and underwent practical training in coil insertion.

Since qualification, Leela has pursued her interest in women’s health as a GP practitioner and menopause expert. She holds a British menopause certificate and is a member of the British Menopause Society

Leela believes in a holistic, empathetic, and individualised approach to each and every patient. She is delighted to join The Amara Clinic team to continue learning and providing exceptional care to women.

Meet Charlotte

Dr Charlotte Macpherson graduated from the University of Southampton in 2009 with a Batchelor of Medicine and a first class honours degree in Biomedical Science. She then continued training in the South West; initially with two years of obstetrics and gynaecology specialist training before completing GP training in Salisbury.

Throughout her career in general practice, Charlotte has always maintained a strong interest in
Women’s Health. She holds the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health, as well the British Menopause Society Advanced Certificate of Menopause Care.

Alongside her work at the Amara Clinic she also works as an NHS Menopause Specialist at Salisbury
District Hospital.

Charlotte Macpherson

Meet Suzanne

Dr Suzanne Collings is a Specialist in Menopause Care. After qualifying from the University of Leeds in 2009, she completed her GP training in Harrogate before moving back to Sefton to work as a GP in the local area for the past ten years. Since qualification, Suzanne has pursued her interests in women’s health, gaining the Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care. She is now a registered accredited specialist with the British Menopause Society.

She strongly believes in an individualised approach to patient care whilst maintaining a human touch of empathy and understanding. Suzanne values the importance of helping women maintain their health and wellbeing through their menopause journey.

Suzanne Collings

Meet Heather

Dr Heather Lambert graduated from Peninsula Medical School in Devon in 2008.  She completed her training in the North Hampshire area where she continues to work as an GP.  Heather has a special interest in women’s health, contraception and menopause and has a passion for improving women’s quality of life. She holds the Advanced Certificate of Menopause Care as well as the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and the Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Medicine.  She is trained to contraceptive coils and implants.

Alongside her work at the Amara Clinic, Heather runs a weekly gynaecology clinic at Basingstoke Hospital which has allowed her to broaden her knowledge of women’s health conditions.  Heather understands the importance of personalising HRT treatment to each patient’s individual needs and is passionate about empowering women to improve their health and wellbeing.

Meet Helen

Dr Helen Duff graduated from King’s College London Medical School in 2012 and completed her GP training in South Wales. During this time she developed her interest in Women’s Health completing the Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and obtaining the Faculty of Reproductive and Sexual Health letters of competence for coil and contraceptive implant fitting. She relocated to Hampshire in 2019 and used her maternity leave in 2020 to develop her interest in menopause care.

Helen has been working in specialist menopause services since 2021 and is passionate about supporting women to maintain their health and wellbeing through this period of their lives. Helen is soon to complete her British Menopause Society Advanced Certificate training to become a fully certified Menopause Specialist.

Helen Duff

Meet Olivia

Dr Olivia Jones graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 2007 and undertook her GP training in London where she also practiced as a GP both within the NHS and private sector. During her time as a GP in London and then back home in the home counties, Olivia discovered her passion for women’s health, especially hormonal health. She has worked as a Menopause Specialist in the private sector for many years and has gained the Advanced Certificate in Menopause care from the British Menopause Society. More recently, Olivia has been able to give this knowledge back by working within her local NHS service.

Olivia loves working with patients, adopting an individualised care approach. She has a wealth of experience in managing hormones both during the perimenopause and menopause but also with regards to PMS and PMDD. Olivia has been heavily involved in educating both patients and other clinicians.

Meet Rebeccah

Dr Rebeccah Tomlinson qualified in 2002 from Cardiff School of Medicine and headed straight into General Practice. Her main focus is on women’s health, having successfully set up and run sexual health and contraceptive clinics in all practices in which she has worked. Currently she also leads a weekly Well Woman’s Clinic for her NHS practice.

Most recently Rebeccah has completed the FSRH Advanced Menopause Skills Certificate and is a registered FSRH trainer and BMS member. She also the Welsh Medical Advisor for the Menstrual Health Project Charity. Her aim is to support patients and clinicians to be able to access and offer comprehensive information in all aspects of women’s health.

Rebeccah Tomlinson

Meet Kate

Dr Kate Burns obtained a Pharmacy degree in Cardiff in 2002, before going on to achieve her MBChB medical degree from the University of Birmingham in 2007. She moved back to Wales to complete her GP training, and has worked there as a GP since 2012.

Dr Burns has a longstanding interest in Women’s Health and contraception; and has been developing an interest in Menopause Care since 2020. She is a member of the British Menopause Society and has recently obtained their Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care. Dr Burns also works as a University Medical Student Tutor; and holds Diplomas from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health (DFSRH) and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRCOG).

Most importantly, she recognises the utmost importance of high quality, empathetic and individualised menopause care; and is very passionate about supporting women through their menopause journey. Dr Burns is delighted to be joining the Amara Clinic team.
